Breakout Sessions REBCRDU

Bookmark this page on your cell phone for the day of the event!

At this point, none of the breakout sessions are scheduled because this is a RE BarCamp. The sessions will be determined by the people who show up and ask to lead a session and not by a committee… YOU are the Committee!  That’s one of the reasons we’ve been asking you to decide what you want to learn!

Once we have the schedule worked out after event-day registration, you’ll find it below so you can see your options right from your phone, tablet or computer throughout the day.  We’ll also have the schedule posted in the registration lobby, and in the back, where there are 3 more rooms.

The Opening Session will be in the Dining Room, and after that session we will close part of the room off, creating a SIDE Room. If you go to the left of the Registration area, you will see a Hallway, at the end of the Hall are 3 additional Breakout rooms.  Room A is to the left, Room B is in the Middle and Room C is on the right.  In addition to this, behind the Dining Area, across from the Registration Area is a Board Room.  This is where lunch will be laid out.  Additionally, we might schedule sessions in the Board Room – Expect this Schedule to get Updated During the Day – so please CHECK BACK!

Voting/Opening Remarks / Housekeeping (9:15 AM – 9:50 AM):  After we vote, we’ll know how many people are interested in each session.  While we put the schedule together, David Patterson will get us ready for the day!

What IS A Re-Bar Camp??

A Real Estate BarCamp is a BarCamp that focuses on Real Estate.  We have an annual BarCampRDU in Raleigh each year that focuses on technology – the folks at Red Hat are involved with that.  We had one a year or so ago in the Triangle for Healthcare – with Doctors from Duke and Carolina, folks from Glaxo, NC Insurance Department, Health Services and Blue Cross – the idea is to have an event with sessions that are determined by the Attendees.

Real Estate BarCamp’s (REBC) are a NO Profit Un-Conference that is hosted, promoted and organized by local full-time, in the trenches real estate and mortgage professionals. It is a killer one day mastermind session dedicated to education and networking, without all of the expensive overhead, drama, product pitching and politics that tend to go along with traditional for-profit conferences. This is the 3rd year we’ve had one in Raleigh!

The topics for this year will be determined the day of the event, but we already know from polling people that we are going to be focusing on what’s really happening in our industry, and we are going to be meeting as professionals for the main purpose of education and networking.  Everyone who comes is responsible for their own learning experience. The rule of “Two Feet” applies – if you’re not interested in a session, walk to another one.  No one gets upset, no one gets mad.

This year’s camp will be a little different and unique, because we really want to promote CONVERSATIONS, not just have PRESENTATIONS.  When there are 110 people in a room to talk about Facebook – you can’t really talk.  We’ve got to keep sessions to 20 or 30 people.  So if 110 WANT to talk about Facebook – we’ll have more sessions on that one topic.

If you’ve come before, you’ll know that there are no scheduled presentations or paid speakers. The day’s agenda is generally decided during the morning registration period by attendees submitting possible sessions that they’d like to participate in or lead.  Then we have electronic voting, and we lay out the schedule.

We’re excited about the event and look forward to seeing you there!  If you want to Sponsor, we are looking for a few more!

What Do You want to talk about this year?

Let's Talk About Making Things BetterThe Real Estate BarCamps around the country have been going on for several years, in fact the third REBarCamp will be in Raleigh on October 21st.  We have a habit of asking folks what they want to talk about prior to Camp – to kind of get the “juices going” and to be sure everybody has a voice.

At the recent REBarCamp in Pheonix, they judged the top 5 topics to be :

  1. 101 Begininer Sessions (5 Sites you need to be on, Facebook Marketing Pages v Profiles)
  2. Mobile Applications iOS and Android
  3. Producing Great Video on a Budget
  4. Outsourcing – How to get an assistant for $3 an hour
  5. Old School meets New School (Door knocking, dialing for dollars, online farming and leveraging technology)

I would expect some of these same topics to be interesting at our camp – although I’m suspecting there will be less of the “beginner” stuff, and more of the Hyper Local Blog Content, and Time Management questions.

I’m also hoping we can talk about some of the things that we are all facing in the Industry right now – like, Outsourcing Short Sales… do you give it to an agent in your office, hire an attorney, or pay a third party?

Lenders AND Real Estate Agents deal each week with families who are losing (or lost) everything.  What resources are available for these families, and what kind of Grief Counseling do we in the Community need to establish?

I hope there’s a conversation about the NEXT Generation of Homebuyers… with everything that’s happened, how do we position Real Estate as the Investment vehicle we all grew up with it being?

I’m looking forward to our REBarCamp!  I think it will be a great day of MANY conversations!  What are some of the topics you would want to cover at Camp?

Where To Stay When You Come To REBarCamp in Raleigh

We’ve negotiated two different venues for those coming to Raleigh for REBarCamp. The Clarion is several blocks from the Event, however there is a very cool Hydro Powered Bus that goes right by the event, and it’s free!  There’s a restaurant on the top floor, with great views of Raleigh, and there’s free Wi-Fi.  The building is circular, and hard to miss!

The Sheraton is less than a block from the Event Venue.  It was recently renovated and updated.  This 100% smoke-free hotel features a polished, contemporary flair throughout all guest areas. Connect with colleagues in the restaurant and lounge. Re-energize in the indoor heated pool or new Fitness Center  There are several good coffee shops connected to the hotel, and others nearby.

REBarCampRDU Committee

No event this size could be done by just one person - and there were TONS of people who diligently came to meetings, helped behind the scenes, volunteered to do everything from negotiating great rates for hotel rooms, to duct taping extension cords so everyone can plug in!  We simply could not do this without our great Sponsors,  and without a great group of your peers who VOLUNTEERED to spend HOURS working on this for our community!

These folks are definitely to be thanked!

Not an Expert?? Not a Problem!

Not an Expert? Not a Problem!I talked to an Agent last week who has years, and years and YEARS of experience selling Real Estate (I’m not saying he’s old!), and asked him if he was coming to REBarCampRDU… He LAUGHED AT ME (I’m talking Roll on the Floor Laughing! ROFL!)

You must have me confused with someone else, ” he said, “I’m NO expert at that Computer Stuff!”

Those of us who have been working for four months to bring this event to the Triangle don’t expect you to be an expert!

In fact, we’ve said all along that if 300 come, we EXPECT 200+ of them to be “first time users.”

Yes, this is an attendee lead event, however – that doesn’t mean that we are going to put you on the spot either! It means we are creating a forum so that if you have a question, it can be answered, and discussed…

This is a new language we are speaking when we talk about Photo Blogging and Webinars, and Twitter. (Here’s a Cheat Sheet!)

Think of it like talking to First Time HomeBuyers… they don’t know what they don’t know!  You ask one question – and that leads to more questions.  That’s how we learn!

Maybe you could look at it this way… if you’re going on a Trip to a place you’ve never been, it’s usually pretty exciting!  Most people do some research, find out more about what there is to do, what the temperature is like and make travel plans.

When you are coming to REBarCampRDU, you should make some plans too! It’s an adventure into a new environment!  Leave us comments, and let us know what YOU want to talk about.  Consider how you might use these new strategies in Marketing your business!

So, do a little research before you begin this adventure – but mostly, just come ready to have fun and LEARN!

A Few Things To Remember About REBCRDU

We are getting so excited about our second REBarCamp RDU!

For alot of you attending, this will be your first BarCamp.  So for everyone new to BarCamp, we wanted to share with you one of our favorite elements of this event.  Now, as folks who are in marketing, we are  usually all about ‘the logo.’

Yet, one of the coolest things about BarCamp is that it is a day to actually physically and emotionally ‘take off your logo’ and be a part of industry, not a company. To share ideas, best practices and learn from experts and other real estate associates in the industry for the betterment of your business and most importantly your clients.

At ReBarCamp RDU,  we are hoping that no physical company logos will come in the door. No logos on shirts, hats, name badges, etc.  We have Specially designed Name Tags for everybody (remember to write down your Twitter Account Name, you’ll need it!).

So on October 21st, show up early, bring your laptop, bring your charger, come ready to learn and share!  And on this day, leave your logo at home! We are so excited to have you and look forward to meeting you in person!

What’s a Thought Leader?

What is a thought leader?

Kind of like a presenter, but not really.

A thought leader shares all their hard-earned knowledge in a casual, personal setting. And you get to vote on who you want to hear from, and what you want to hear!

We’ll let you know who’s coming to REBarCampRDU. They’ll be names you know, with the kind of know-how you wish you had.

Want to come? Have something to share? Let us know, and we’ll find a spot for you! No advertising allowed, just a great group of 300 of your closest friends waiting to hear about the stuff you stayed up late every night figuring out how to do.

Topics may include short sales, foreclosures, ethics, the Real Estate Company of hte Future… blogtalkradio, building websites, Twitter, Facebook, streaming video, video blogging, Technorati, secrets of SEO, online photography, and anything else that will make your RE business stand out in a rapidly changing world.

Where to Stay When You Come to REBCRDU

This year’s REBarCamp is going to be in DownTown Raleigh at the Capitol City Club on the 21st floor!  GREAT VIEWS of our area!

We are making a deal with Marriott and Sheraton and the Clarion Downtown for Rooms.  As soon as we know who is going to give us the best deal we will pass along the updates.  The Marriott and Sheraton are less than 2 blocks away from the event.  The Clarion is close to the “hot spots” downtown, and there’s a really cool trolly and bus that go back and forth to the event site!
